Are you looking for a way to give back to your community and make a positive impact in the lives of others? The Santa Clara County Library’s Adult Literacy Program, also known as The Reading Program, is seeking dedicated and compassionate volunteers to work with adult learners who want to improve their reading, writing, and speaking skills.
Our program provides one-on-one tutoring sessions for adult learners in our community. We believe in creating a positive and supportive learning environment where our learners can thrive without embarrassment or fear of judgment. By improving their literacy skills and building confidence, our learners can pursue a better life for themselves, their families, and their communities.
As a volunteer, you do not need any prior experience or special qualifications to participate. We are looking for volunteers who are patient, flexible, and sensitive to the unique needs of our learners. Our team provides comprehensive training and ongoing support to ensure that our volunteers have the skills and resources necessary to be effective tutors.
Before being matched with a learner, all volunteers must attend an orientation and training session. Additionally, we conduct a background check, which is paid for by the library. Volunteers are expected to be available for at least 2 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months, either virtually or in-person. Registration is required.
If you are interested in becoming a part of our program and helping adult learners in your community, please visit our website to learn more about upcoming orientation and training dates and locations. We welcome all volunteers who are committed to making a positive impact in the lives of others. Join our team today!
